The Hand Tied House Broom
Saturday, March 5 | 12 – 4 pm
$100 ($90 for Threshold Arts Members)
Take yourself back over 150 years for this class! Before factories made all the needed things, every household had to hand make their brooms. In this class we will make an exquisite and robust house broom. Each student will learn Appalachian based tying and lashing techniques that Chris uses for his popular brooms! There will be stalk weaving style and twine color choices available to each student.
Participants should have decent hand strength (can you open pickle jars?) and grip stamina for this class. Please also be comfortable in the safe use of common utility knife.
Artist Instructor Chris Nibbe
Broom making was the start of my adventure into the art world. I enjoy taking what I learn from others and my own explorations and sharing with others whenever possible. I am an architectural designer by trade from a family of woodworkers.
Register early, space is limited to 8 participants.
