Threshold Arts is pleased to partner with Hometown Opera Company to bring you An Evening of Opera at the Historic Chateau Theatre. The performance will feature local singers performing some of their favorite arias from the world’s most loved and performed operas including Carmen, Roméo et Juliette, Guistino, Rinaldo, Idomeneo, La Clemenza di Tito, and The Magic Flute. We invite you to enjoy the sounds of these gorgeous voices at this iconic venue in downtown Rochester.

Hometown Opera Company is a new group of singers who love opera and love sharing it with others. Drawn together out of the woodwork of existing music networks and connections, the group exists to provide a local community for both opera singers and appreciators. They aim to make opera accessible to all by recreating the songs, stories, and magic of this long-lived art form. The group includes vocalists Stefanie Tranchida, Michelle Howard, Kathryn Bisanti, Eleanore Sutherland, and Kate Rogers. For this performance, vocalists will be accompanied by Jan Matson, Carol Engel, and Rebekah Novinger.

Stefanie Tranchida

Stefanie Tranchida is originally from metro-Detroit, and she recently moved to Minnesota after living in Italy for the last seven years. While abroad she finished her Masters Degree in Music Education at Conservatorio di Musica G. Tartini, with a focus on voice, and choral conducting. Stefanie sang first soprano in Conservatorio G. Tartini’s Academic Choir, as well as the Michigan State University State Singers. Stefanie currently sings with the Rochester Symphony Orchestra Chorale and works as the K-12 general music and choir teacher at Lyle Public Schools.

Michelle Howard

Michelle Howard earned her BA in Music - Vocal Performance from BYU. She has enjoyed singing with the Rochester Symphony Chorale for the past 6 years. Michelle has recently performed with local theater and is grateful to be a part of this Opera Community!

Kathryn Bisanti

Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Arts in vocal music from the University of Kansas where she studied with New York Metropolitan Opera Mezzo-Soprano, Joyce Castle. In 2016, she spearheaded a non-profit initiative in Omaha, Nebraska called the Nebraska Opera Project. This organization produced creative and innovative Operatic performances that brought together both local professional musicians and students. Kathryn was a participant in the Spoleto Vocal Arts symposium in Spoleto, Italy where she received intensive training and performed at various Opera houses throughout the Umbria region. Currently, Kathryn teaches Elementary Music and High School Choir at Pacelli Catholic Schools in Austin, MN.

Eleanore Sutherland

Eleanore has been singing her entire life. In addition to choral involvement for 12 years, she has trained under two talented instructors. When she’s not singing, Eleanore is a full time student studying Speech Pathology.

Kate Rogers

Kate Rogers is a Rochester native, singer, coffee-lover, and auntie. Kate graduated from Century High School, and holds a B.A. in Music Education from University of MN, Morris. Although she works in another field than music she enjoys using her musical background to create and perform. Kate has been a part of several singing ensembles in the area and currently sings with Notochords, a Rochester big-band that plays jazz, and popular music from the 40’s and 50’s.
